Share Many of us have experienced the panic of trying to reduce credit card debt. It’s very difficult to stay focused when every month new bills come in and it’s difficult to catch your breath. There are a couple of things to do in order to help you out with credit card debt and its reduction. It’s important that you know how to speak to creditors and basically stay focused and organized. Organization is the key to reduce credit card debt. Being organized and focused will help you reduce the debt faster and keep you on track. Here is couple of debt tips to staying organized and focused: Make it Visual: You won’t be able to reduce credit card debt unless you know exactly how much debt you have. Create a list of the Credit Cards from least to most debt, how much you owe, interest %, and monthly payments with totals at the bottom. Update the totals each month to motivate you. Use Tools: There are many tools out there created especially to reduce credit card debt. They help you calculate which debt is most important to make disappear first as well as keeps you on track of payments and dates. Ditch the Credit Card: If there is something you have learned from having credit card debt is that it begins with a credit card. Avoid using your credit card at all costs, unless in an emergency. If you can’t afford it don’t buy it, it will only add to your debt and take you a step back. Unexpected Income: If you get money from somewhere unexpectedly, don’t spend it on a shopping spree or a vacation. Apply it to your debt. To motivate you pay off your smallest loan, which also in most cases has the highest interest, so you can see it crossed off your list. Keep Paying: If you pay off a credit card debt and it’s been crossed off your list, don’t just take the extra money a month and spend it. Take that money and apply it to the next credit card on the list. This way it will pay off faster. Savings: If you have a high interest debt you need to get rid of right away you may use part of your savings account to pay it off. Make sure that you don’t spend the entire savings so you don’t have to tap into a credit card in case of an emergency. Pay on Time: That’s what the list is for, keeping you on track. Sometimes the late fees are as much as the monthly payments. If you are expecting to be late, or are having a hard time putting together monthly payments contact the credit card. They actually tend to be fairly understanding of these types of situations and offer extensions, as long as you don’t make it a habit. Other ways that you can reduce credit card debt is by trying to negotiate with the credit cards themselves. Make offers to settle creidt card debt. Recently so many people are having problems with debt and announcing bankrupts that credit cards are really suffering and desperate to make you an offer. Obviously, they will never show that, so you have to ask them for it. Better offers: Right now many credit card companies are competing for your attention and trying to offer their help to get you out of other credit card companies’ debt. When you get such an offer, don’t just accept, call all of your credit cards and let them know what offers you are receiving, they will surely try and offer you something better. Let them know: You never know what you can get unless you ask. Send a formal letter to your credit card company that you cannot reduce the credit card debt and are having trouble with monthly payments and pulling the money together. Ask them to lower your interest rate, however, first review what you have and do your homework. Know approximately what reasonable interest rate would help you. Bailing Out: This also involves negotiations with your credit card company. Let them know the trouble you are having and you cannot seem to reduce credit card debt, let them know all of your debts per month and how it is truly impossible to pay off the debt. Make a settlement to your credit card debt. Many will offer that if you pay off a part of your debt, they will erase the rest. It will take some back and forth, however, it’s well worth it. Debt Settlement– This is basically when you don’t pay for about 60-90 days and have collected some money that you can possibly offer to the credit card. A good place to start is 25% for the first offer and increase offer from there. If the offer is increased ask for more, like erased black marks. Yes, it is not exactly and easy task to reduce credit card debt, and nothing that you do will make it easy. However, there are ways to make it go by faster and less painful. Make sure that you stay organized and communicate to your credit card debtors in order to have a broad view of your choices. Would You Like to Share Your Experience on This Topic?
